Mussoorie Best Hill Station in India

Mussoorie, sometimes referred to as ‘Queen of Hills’ is one of the exquisite colonial hill stations in India. This beautiful hill station falls in the region of Dehradun District of Northern Indian State, Uttarakhand. Mussoorie is surrounded by great Himalayan ranges, and its beauty can be read out in the stories of great writer Ruskin Bond, an Indian author of British descent. It is one of the best hill stations in India surrounded by beauty of nature; being situated at the foothills of Himalayan ranges, Mussoorie is blessed with beauty of nature, which makes it among the most popular places to see in India.  Besides tourist places, Mussoorie is hub of many reputed education institutes like St. George's College, Mussoorie, Wynberg Allen School, Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School etc. Being the prominent tourist places in India, Mussoorie, encompasses everything good hotels, lovely picnic spots and lots of adventure.

Brief History of Mussoorie
Mussoorie got its name from ‘mansoor’, a kind of shrub which is easily found in the region and there for the place is also entitled with ‘Mansoori’ by many local people. The place was discovered near the year, 1827 by British military personnel.  Mall road is the heritage for the place where during the British Empire in India, there was a racist signs, mentioning, “Indians and Dogs Not Allowed". In 1959, during Tibetan rebellion, it was the first stay for 14th Dalai Lama, later moved to its present location Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. Mussoorie always been favorite destinations of many reputed personalities; Nehru Family were regular visitors to the place. Apart from them, Mussoorie is always been first choice of many big celebrities like Amitabh Bachan and Sachin Tendulkar.


Places to See in Mussoorie
Mussooriee is considered among the best hill Stations in India, and best time to visit Mussoorie is March to June, September to November and December to January.

Kempty Falls: It is one of the most beautiful tourist places in India, visited by thousands of visitors every month. As the name suggests, it is a natural water fall located at the distance of 15 Kms from Mussorie on Chakrata Road. It is situated on high altitude of 1364 meter from the sea level, founded by British officer John Mekinan in 1835. The water fall has total height of 40 feets, appears like beautiful stream.

Lal Tibba: It is the highest point in Mussoorie, 5Km from uphill walk from the Picture Palace. There is a old light house in Lal Tibba.

Lake Mist: It is other major attraction in Mussoorie, situated just 5 Km from Mussoorie on Kempty Fall Road. It is good place for picnic, also owns few good restaurants and hotels. Boating facility is available in lake. Lake is meant by many small waterfalls which is quite eye-pleasing in itself.

St. Paul Church: It is a beautiful oldest church in the town, built during the British Empire in India for then Christian Community.

Trolley Ride Mussoorie: It is the best part about the Mussoorie, Trolley ride is one adventurous fun available on Gun Hill, one of the highest point in Mussoorie from where visitors can have bird eye view of the Mussoorie.

Sir George Everest's House: Apart from natural beauty, Mussoorie is also abode of many ancient buildings, which makes Mussoorie one of the historical places in India. Sir George Everest’s House is oldest building in Mussoorie. It was laboratory of Sir Georage Everest, who was surveyor, General of India from 1830 to 1843. One can have panoramic view of Doon Valleys from here.
 
Water Falls in Mussoorie: Mussoorie is house of many famous water falls that give blessing of nature, and peaceful environment to visitor come over there. Among famous water falls some are Kempty Fall, Mossy Fall, Jharipani Fall, Bhatta Fall etc.


Temples Near Mussoorie
There are very few temples in the area which are quite popular some of them are listed below.

Jawalaji Temple: It is one of the oldest temples in Mussoorie located on high valley of Benog Hill. The temple is dedicated to Mata Durga, Hindu deity attracts many pilgrims every day. There is old Idol of Goddess Durga is placed inside the temple.

Nag Devta Temple: It is also an ancient temple in India dedicated to God of Snakes and Lord Shiva. It is just 6 km away from Mussoorie. It is easily accessible temple as located on Cart Mackenzie Road, on the way to Dehradun.

How to Reach Mussoorie
Reaching Mussoorie is quite easy, as it well connected with all the means of transport.

By Air: The nearest airport to Mussoorie is Jolly Gran Airport, Dehradun, which is located in 60 Km from the town. The airport has daily flights to Delhi, Capital of India, and Delhi is further connected with all major cities of India and around the globe.

By Rail: Dehradun Railway station is the only nearest railway station to the Mussorrie, just 34 Km away, and taxis and other public and private transport is easily available from there to Mussorrie.

By Road: Mussorrie is blessed with well maintained roads and easily accessible form all near by cities, and many major cities of North India including Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ambala etc.
