Sikkim sometimes referred to as Shikim or Su Khyim is the Northern – Eastern State of India that touches three international borders Nepal to West, China to North, and Bhutan to East. It is the most travel destination in India which is covered with untouched beauty of nature. The place is full of picturesque and charming streams and peaks that touch the heart whoever comes here. Sikkim is the best travel place in India surrounded by Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the World. It remains snow dressed whole year and gives boasts of unexplored beauty. Being the subtropical region, Sikkim is blessed with 28 mountain peaks, and more than 80 glaciers and an approximately 227 high altitude natural lakes. The place is also well known for cultivation of cardamom which is quite famous all over the India.

Nathula Pass: This pass is the abode of zigzag sweet sound waterfall. Nathula Pass is located on high altitude of 14200 feet from sea level. The place need permit to visit as it high secured area because of Indo-China border that connects India to Tibet. It is also the oldest silk route covered with fence because of border area.

Monasteries in Sikkim: The place has been under the influence of Buddhism for many reasons which have given birth to many Monasteries, and Enchey Monastery is one of them that make Sikkim one of the  

religious places in India, attracts many devotees of Buddha. This Monastery is a seat of Nyingmapa order. It is more than 200 years old monastery which built on holy place of Dalai Lama, also known as Lama Drupto Karpo.  The two day fair is celebrated here every year called “Cham”. Masked dances are performed at this place. Enchey Monastery is one of the well known Buddhist Monasteries in India, and is considered the best place for meditation. There are approximately 200 Monasteries in Sikkim, and few famous monasteries are Rumtek, Pemyangtse, Tashinding etc.

Trekking in Sikkim: Trekking is the first thing which comes in mind whenever we move to some hill area, and place like Sikkim is  paradise for trekking lovers. Trekking from Yuksom to Dzongri Peak and further on to Goecha Peak is challenge in its self that thrills body and soul. This trekking passes through dense forests of rhododendrons’; these forests are quite untouched and are away from human interferences. Trekking in Sikkim is not allowed without permission in most of it parts, and that can be taken from tourist office which is located in Gangtok. One can also take permission from Sikkim Tourist Office, Chanakyapuri, Delhi, India.

 River Rafting in Sikkim:  Sikkim just opened platform for rafting in its lake Teesta, which has become quite popular river rafting place in India. Rafting Teesta River follows the route of Makha-Sirwani-Bardang-Rongpo.  There are also few white sandy beaches on river that is good option for overnight camping. The best time for rafting in Sikkim is from March to May and October to December.

  
Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden: It is a beautiful Botanical garden founded in 1987, dedicated to first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. The park adjacent to Rumtek Monastery comes under possession of Forest Department of Sikkim Government.  The park has gorgeous Oak tree, and variety of flora that founded in area.

Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology:  It is the well known research center in country for Tibetan studies and Culture. The institute includes huge collection of rare manuscripts, Buddhist books, and icons. The building is beautiful example of Tibetan architecture surrounded by beautiful Oak trees.

How to Reach Sikkim

Air:  Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport to the place which is located in Gangtok, located at the distance of 120 Km which is connected through daily flights to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

Rail:  Siliguri railways station is the nearest railway station for the Sikkim falls in West Bengal. It is further connected with major Indian Cities.

Road: It is the best way to reach Sikkim, as it is connected through National Highway 31A and 31 that links it to Siliguri to Gangtok. Buses are easily available which are run Sikkim National Transport. Private Jeep service is also available between Sikkim and Siliguri.
