Ooty The Queen of Hill Stations

Ooty is a beautiful hill station, also referred to as, ‘Udhagamandalam’.  It is served as capital for the Nilgiris district of Indian State of Tamil Nadu. It is located at the distance of 80 K.m. from Coimbatore, a city in Tamil Nadu, India. Ooty is surrounded with striking Nilghiri’s valleys, offers pleasing picnic spot, and best place for camping too. One can have eye pleasing view of Blue Mountains around the area.


History of Ooty
Ooty has very extended history, once it was the gateway for Britishers during in the colonial period in India. Before, British Raj in India, the place had been under the possession of numerous local kings such as Ganga kings, Tippu Sultan,  Hoysala kings etc; Later on, came under the British Raj. The place was used as treatment center for wounded soldiers of British army. Todas , Alu Kurumbas, Badagas, and Kotas are the major tribes, founded in the region of Nilghiri and Ooty.

Ooty best tourist place in IndiaOoty Lake It is worthless until you don’t enjoy boating in Ooty as clear water of lake gives you an ever fascinating experience that remains for life. The lake is spread over an area of approximately 65 acres, and attacks’ thousand of tourists from the country and from abroad too. John Sullivan, made this lake construct in 1824, and it is foamed by damming few streams of Ooty valley. Lake is like the jewel to Ooty that makes it one of the top tourist places in India.

Botanical Garden Ooty 
If you have an interest in botany, then the place suits your taste, Ooty Botanical Garden owns the area of 22 acres. It is maintained by the government of Tamil Nadu, houses many of different species of herbal plants. It comprises species of an exotic and indigenous plants, shrubs, ferns, trees etc. The exhibition of rare plants is also organized here every year in the month of May. Garden’s main attraction is its fossilized tree, which is believed to be 20-million-year-old.

It is also known as Nilgiri Mountain Railway; without having the experience of Mountain Railway of Ooty, your journey can’t be accomplished. It was built in 1908 by British Power during British period in India. Trains are run by steam locomotives, also listed in world heritage by UNESCO in July 2005. The railway gives you unique and unforgettable experience of Nilgiri valleys.

Tribal Museum Ooty 
Tribal Research Center located at the distance 10 Km from the Ooty which is also other major attraction of the area, as it offers Tribal Museum that houses collection of rare work of arts and photographs of tribal faction of Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The display of tribe’s house can be seen here, as the museum has houses belongs to Toda, Kota, Paniya, Kurumba ,Kanikaran, etc.

How to Reach Ooty

Road
Ooty has good transport facilities, as it well connected to major cities of India such as Coimbatore, Chennai, Mysore, Connor, Bangalore etc. One can have reach here by using local buses from it’s near by areas such as Kotagiri, Gudalur, Coonoor, etc. These buses are run by the government of Tamil Nadu.

Railway
The nearest railway station for the Ooty is Udhagamandalam Railway Station which is further connected with many major cities in India.

Air
Ooty doesn’t own an airport its nearest airport is located in Coimbatore city known as Coimbatore International Airport, which is an international airport connected with many major cities in country and outside too.
