Sundarbans National Park, Wildlife Destination in India

Sundarbans is an exquisite mangrove forest in Indian State West Bengal. Kolkata is the nearest city to the park, gives quite pleasant environment and keeps you away from the hustle and bustle, and appalling noise of city. Sundarban is one of the tiger reserves in India, established in 1984; it is encircled with variety of flora and forest. The total land acquired by the park is 328,700 acres; it is largest tiger reserve in India that can be best wild life tour in India. This Biosphere reserve is abode for many species of animal and birds Including salt water crocodile, reptile, bird and some endangered animals.

The park has six bungalows offer all basic amenities for tourist offering, toilet, shower and king size bed to sleep. The lodger offer quite good dining where one can have real taste of Bengali Cuisine. Apart from this, there is also arrangement for other food.

Fauna and Flora in Sundarbans

Flora
The whole Sundarban is surrounded with mangrove forest which is responsible to maintain its ecosystem. The park comprises 64 different species of plant that can grow in all bad weather conditions. Few trees are of red and yellow flower that gives park gorgeous look to park during the spring. Coming to tress the park has assortment of trees, including Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, timber, firewood, sundari, garon etc.

Fauna
Being the tiger reserve, the park is abode of approximately 400 tigers. Among them few are Bengal tigers one can observe these tigers near the river having bath and sun basking. Best time to watch tigers are November and Febuarary. Many species of animals reside in the park among them few are Apart from the Royal Bengal Tiger, there are also other animals in park, including Fishing Cats, Leopard Cats, Macaques, Wild Boar, Indian Grey Mongoose, Flying fox, Jungle Cat, Pangolin etc.

Sundarban’s most of the area is covered with wetlands and mangrove forest that makes it perfect place for aqua fauna including sawfish, butter fish, tree frogs, king crabs, star fish etc. The park was meant to give an ideal place to endangered species of animals. Tiger was initiative project of the park to save Bengal Tiger, one of the endangered species of tigers. Besides Royal Bengal tiger, the park comprises of many endangered animals, including Saltwater Crocodile, River Terrapin, Olive Ridley Turtle, horseshoe crab, and ground turtle.

Tiger Camp is a well renowned forest resort that is spread over an area of 15 bigah of land; the resort is setup just near the Sajnekhali Tiger Reserve Forest that makes it one of the most adventurous places in India. The resort has facility of 50 Seater boats that gives you chance to come little closer to animal’s real habitats, offer landscape view of Sundarbans forest. Moreover, the resort has quite good arrangement for breakfast, lunch and dinner with all first aid medical facilities.

How to Reach Sunderbans National Park
Air: The nearest airport to the park is located in Kolkata, called Subhash Chandra Boss Airport. It is just 112 km far from the place, and from the airport. You can get boat to Sunderbans from kolkata that takes just 2 hours and by road you can reach to the park in three hours.
Rail: Canning railway station is the nearest railway station located just 29 km far from the park and you can get taxi for the park from the station which is easily available.
Road: Sundarbans is very well connected through road to Kolkata which is 110 km away, and all modes of public transports are available for Kolkata to Sundarbans easily.
