Diwali the Festival of Lights

Hi Reader hope you all  are doing well in your lives, we know that the month October in India is full of festivals, and Diwali is one of the prominent Hindu festivals which are celebrated all across the India with great exuberance and interest. Diwali is considered the “festival of lights” as on that day we lighten our surrounding like houses, shops and public places with oil lamps, generally called deep or diya.

Diwali is seeing as the victory of good over evil since on that very day Lord Rama (a Hindu deity) returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after his long stay in the forests.  According Ramayana, a great Hindu epic, wife of Lord Rama’s was captured by the demon of Lanka Ravana. Lord Rama, with the help of Hanuman and his other monkey army  reached to Lanka to bring his wife back and also killed Ravana.

Being the prominent Hindu Festival, Diwali is celebrated all over the India and over the nations where Hindu community resides. Today, we are going to introduce few places to visit in India where Diwali is celebrated in different ways, which are definitely going to be liked by you. Though Diwali is celebrated all over the India yet there are few places where the festival has strong influence.


Diwali in Amritsar, Punjab: Amritsar is one of the Historical places in the India, comes under the state of Punjab. Diwali festival has strong place in the history of Amritsar as on that very day sixth Guru of Sikh, Shiri Guru Hargobind Singh ji got released from Gwalior Jail along with 52 Rajas resulted both Hindu and Sikhs celebrate the festival with great joy and enthusiasm. On Diwali, the Golden Temple of Amristar is decorated with lights and diyas which are quite delightful in its self.  All the markets of the city are decorated with lights, people distributes sweets among the friends and family and enjoy fireworks display at night.

Diwali in Kolkata, West Bengal:  Diwali in Kolkata is known for worship of Mata Durga and Kali, two of the Hindu deities. Goddess, Kali is regarded as incarnation of Maa Shakti. On the occasion of Kali Puja (worship of deity) live lamb or buffalo is also offered to the Maa Kali as Bali (food offered to deity).

Diwali in Jaipur: Diwali in Jaipur is quite special from other Indian States, Diwali here starts from the day of Dhanteras, which is a day of Kubera, the lord of Wealth. Markets are decorated with flower, lights and other decorative. Here on can get more than 20,000 varieties of earthen lamps which are available in the different shape of birds, animals etc. Jaipur is always considered the best place to visit in India and is best place to purchase handicrafts, traditional clothes, gift items etc which are most exposed on occasion of Deewali.


Diwali in Varanashi: Varnashi is regarded as Holiest place in India where Diwali is celebrated with passion and peace. There are over 50 old Ghats in Varanashi which are light up with thousands of earthen lamp which are quite wonderful experience in its self.
